East Cork Junior C Hurling League Division 4
Cobh v Carrigtwohill in Cobh
Friday, 25th March
Cobh 0.13 Carrigtwohill 0.16
Carrig had a very impressive second half display in this first match of the junior hurling league in the Cathedral town.
The game was an even affair in the first quarter, with the sides level on three points apiece, fifteen minutes in. Cobh were well on top in the second quarter and ran up a five point half-time lead on a scoreline of 0-10 to 0-05. Carrig’s first half scores came from Shane Healy (0-2; 0-1f), Matthew Kidney (0-2) and Liam Scriven (0-1f).
Carrigtwohill really got to grips with Cobh in all areas of the field in the second half, racking up eleven points from five different players, with all bar one coming from play. The half-back line of Jack Barrett, Eamon Fitzgerald and Daragh Hannigan scored four points between them, with Hannigan hitting a brace; all of them impressive scores from distance on the front foot. Matthew Kidney scored four points from a range of angles and distances. Shane ‘Tudna’ Healy added three points (one, a free) to his first half tally. Veteran, Darren Burns, who was relocated from corner forward to the corner back berth towards the end of the game, made a couple of vital interceptions as Cobh pressed to close the gap, late on.
Well done to the panel and the management team of Peter Hogan (manager), Pat Horgan and JJ Barry on what was a very spirited performance in the league opener.
