First U19 Hurling Match for Carrig
April 07, 2022
Fe19 East Division 1 Hurling League
CArrigtwohill v Bride Rovers in Carrig
Wednesday 6th April
Carrigtwohill 1.14 Bride Rovers 1.17
Carrigtwohill fielded their first hurling team in this new age group at Páirc Séamus de Barra. It was a solid performance with only Fé18 and Fé19 outfield players togged out. Unfortunately, Carrig could not overturn last November’s Fé18 narrow 0-17 to 0-16 East Division 1 championship semi-final loss to the same opposition. Nonetheless, it was a very worthwhile game for the panel of players.
The home team trailed by five points (1-3 to 0-11) at half-time, having played against a stiff breeze in the first half. Lorcán Walsh scored Carrig’s only goal. Carrigtwohill battled away in the second half but Bride Rovers held out for a three point win. Mark O’Connor (0-7; 0-5 f) and Justin Oke (0-5; 0-1 sl) were Carrig’s main scorers. Neil Coughlan and Adam Rooney chipped in with a point apiece.
It was great to see Niall Harte and Ronan Browne back swinging a hurley with the team again. Well done to the panel and management team of Tomás Hogan (manager), Seán Rohan, Mervyn O’Connor, Aaron Walsh Barry and Liam Gosnell.
Carrig will play St. Colmcille’s in their remaining group game. Watergrasshill, Cobh and St. Catherine's are in the other side of the East Division 1 league.
