Smart Steps for Carrig!

Carrigtwohill GAA Healthy Club has signed up for the Every Step Counts Challenge in partnership with RTÉ's Operation Transformation and Get Ireland Walking. This challenge runs for just five weeks from the 11th of January until the 15th of February.  The aim is to collectively walk a combined total of 4,000km.

You do NOT need to take part in the Wednesday Ireland Lights Up Walks to take part and help with this challenge.

All you need is a smartphone.  Simply follow these three simple steps:

  1. Download the MyLife app at https://mylife.irishlife.ie/home
  2. Register.  (You can register under a pseudonym if you want to remain anonymous.)
  3. Select: Challenges > Pending > Munster GAA – Every Step Counts 2023 > Leaderboard > Carrigtwohill GAA > Join

The app will track all your steps.  You do not necessarily have to go out galivanting all over the place.  All of your steps/movements will help us to work our way towards our goal and also to work our way up the leaderboard of Munster clubs.

We are doing very well after giving the other clubs a head-start of 24 hours and have worked our way up to 80th out of almost 200 clubs, with 316km covered in just over a day.

Troubleshooting the App:

For those who cannot get ‘up and running’ and are showing no distance covered, try uninstalling and reinstalling the app.  This has worked for some people.

- Make sure to select Track in the MyLife app and click START to track all of your steps each day.

- For iPhone users, you may need to sync the phone’s Health app to the MyLife app to see your distance/steps logged.

Select MyLife Support > Tracking Devices/Apps.

- You can sync most running devices/apps to the MyLife app, so that all of your exercise is logged to the challenge.

Update

We've moved on and now hold a pretty decent position for ourselves in Munster (see below). Fantastic achievement and thanks to all of you for supporting us to date. Keep those legs moving, though. C'mon Carrig..

See notes on troubleshooting the app just a bit further below..

Take out that smartphone and join the challenge!  Carraig Abú!

Starting this Wednesday, 11th January

Carrigtwohill GAA Healthy Club is hosting 'Ireland Lights Up' in partnership with RTÉ's Operation Transformation and Get Ireland Walking.
Ireland Lights Up is the country's biggest community walking initiative, which encourages GAA clubs to make exercise more accessible on dark winter nights and to offer people an opportunity to get together and socialise in a healthy way.

The eight-week walking programme will take place on Wednesdays at 7.30pm, starting this week.

Starting at the GAA grounds, the route will go along Main Street and through Fota Rock and Cúl Árd. We will return to Main Street via Station Road. People then have the option of finishing at the GAA grounds (approx. 2 miles or 3km) or continuing on to do a lap of the lake in Castlelake and returning back to the GAA club, bringing the distance to approx. 3 miles (5km).

Note: Please sign in at the assembly point (near the ball alley in the GAA grounds) before starting each week.

All are welcome so we'd be delighted for you to come down to the club and come walking with us.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
