East Cork Junior C Football Championship Group 3 Round 3 in Lisgoold on Friday 21st July

Carrigtwohill  4.17  -  1.07  Lisgoold

The junior C footballers travelled to Lisgoold on the back of a comprehensive (3-11 to 1-03) win against Bride Rovers in the opening round of the championship six days earlier.
Carrig played into the breeze in the first half amd played some good football from the off.  Luke Kelly O’Regan slotted a penalty kick low to the corner.  Adrian Browne kicked Carrig’s first point and Trevor English opened his account before Luke blasted a second penalty kick into the top corner to put Carrigtwohill a goal to the good, 2-02 to 1-02.  Trevor angled a nice effort over the bar and Lisgoold reciprocated.  Seán O’Sullivan and Adrian Browne kicked a good point apiece from distance to send Carrig in four points ahead (2-05 to 1-04) at half-time.
The visitors dominated the second half with the aid of the breeze.  By the 45 minute mark, Carrig had opened up a ten point lead (2-12 to 1-05) with scores from Luke Kelly O’Regan (three; one free), Trevor English (two), Ronan Browne and his brother, Adrian (one each).  Frank Kierans opened his account before Mark O’Connor reeled off 2-3 with some sublime kicking.  Kierans doubled his tally to finish the scoring for Carrig and Lisgoold kicked two more points in the closing stages of the game.
Well done to the panel and management on an impressive performance and on successive wins in the championship.  Carrig will play Midleton in their final group game on the 19th August.

East Cork Junior A Football Championship Group 3 Round 3 in Glenville on Sunday 16th July

Carrigtwohill  0.10  -  2.09  Carraig na bhFear

The junior A footballers put in a big effort in this game but their shooting boots were off on the day.
In an evenly contested first half, Daniel Murnane kicked the opening point of the match and Séan Walsh lofted a huge effort over the bar from the wing.  Pádraic ‘Bobs’ Hogan cut through and slotted the ball between the posts, with Carrig trailing by two points (0-03 to 1-02) after 15 minutes.  Cian O’Riordan fisted the ball over the bar after good workrate from Justin Oke and Liam O’Sullivan.  Carraig na bhFear then scored indirectly from a penalty, reacting the quickest to the rebound from David Rooney’s good save.  Murnane notched two frees to make it a two point game at half-time: 0-06 to 2-02.
Carrigtwohill kept battling away in the second half, staying in touch and getting back to within one point of their opponents after 50 minutes.  Daniel Murnane kicked another free over the bar and then converted a shot from play after a good offload by Jamie McCarthy.  Carraig na bhFear reciprocated with two scores before another Murnane free made it 0-09 to 2-04 with ten minutes remaining.  Unfortunately, Carrig lost their shape and were overrun in the final ten minutes, as Carraig na bhFear reeled off five unanswered points.  Murnane slotted over another free late in the game.
This loss meant that Carrigtwohill’s run in the championship came to an end.  Sincere thanks to Clive Cremen, Frank Flannery and Niall Kidney for their efforts with the team this year.
