EAST CORK FOOTBALL FINAL
EAST CORK FOOTBALL FINAL
October 25, 2024
The Junior A footballers will line out against Castlemartyr in the East Cork final this coming Bank Holiday weekend.
The team has progressed steadily since a below-par first round loss to Dungourney. They bounced back from that defeat with very good wins against Lisgoold and Youghal. A gutsy second half display saw the lads win the semi-final against Erin’s Own on a scoreline of 0-11 to 0-07.
Carrig first played A grade football in 1981 after winning the East Cork junior B championship the previous year. That 1980 championship success was the club’s first adult one and was a seminal moment for football in Carrigtwohill. Current selector, Niall Barrett, was on the 1980 team and the club has fielded at A grade continuously since 1981. Carrigtwohill have won the East Cork junior A championship on three occasions, in 1993, 1997 and 2000. The 1993 team had a run to the county final, where they were beaten by a very good Dohenys side that went on to win the intermediate championship the following year. Further East Cork final appearances followed in 2007, 2014 and 2020.
We wish the entire panel of players and management team of Cian Rohan (manager), Niall Barrett, Pat Horgan, Shane Kennedy, Tim O’Connor (all selectors) the very best of luck in the final. Go n-éirí an t-ádh leo.
This team deserves a big support. The jazz can wait – take a jaunt down to Rostellan next Saturday afternoon! Carraig Abú!
