Carrig dug deep to come out on top and record their 1st league win of the year against Fr. O’Neills at West End. After leading from the start of the game Fr. O’Neills overhauled a 5-point half-time deficit with the aid of the breeze to draw level at 0-12 apiece with ten minutes to go. However, it was Carrig who pushed on and outscored O’Neills by 0-4 to 0-1 during the remainder to win by three.

Carrig were to the fore in the first half making good use of the wind to lead 0-5 to no score after 14 minutes with 4 Gosnell frees and a Padraic Hogan strike from play getting Carrig on the board. O’Neills came into the game in the 2nd quarter but Carrig maintained that 5 point advantage to the half with 3 further Gosnell scores (2 frees) and strikes from the impressive Sean Walsh, Aaron Walsh Barry and T. Hogan.

With the wind at their back O’Neills flew into the 2nd half and ate into Carrig’s lead before levelling in the 50th minute. A Gosnell free was all Carrig mustered in that time as the rain started pouring down. But it was Carrig who drove on impressively into the wind as the young trio of Gosnell (0-2), Sean Walsh and James Mulcahy took their chances to fire Carrig to the win. 

Carrig’s next game is against Mallow on Thursday, March 19th in Carrig.
