Division 2 Senior Hurling League Round 1

Carrig 0-18 Kilworth 1-15 in Carrig on Sunday, February 23rd at 11.30am

A late flurry of points helped Carrig to a well-deserved draw in the opening match of the 2020 Division 2 league campaign. Kilworth made the long trip to Carrig and gave as good as they got in the opening exchanges leading by 0-5 to 0-2 in the first quarter with James Mulcahy nabbing both Carrig scores. Carrig were guilty of a few wides in the first-half that kept Kilworth in touch and the Avondhu side managed to go in at the break ahead, 0-10 to 0-9. Liam Gosnell notched 2 frees, Padraic Hogan grabbed 2 points (1 free) and Tomás Hogan added 2 more scores with 1 point unaccounted for.

Carrig levelled on the resumption through T. Hogan again but Kilworth goaled and added a point to push 4 points clear. A fine Aaron Walsh Barry score had Carrig within a ghoal but it was Kilworth who added the next 2 points to lead 1-13 to 0-11. Carrig used their panel and it was substitute Sean Walsh who pointed Carrig’s next score and T. Hogan and Kilworth traded points to again elave Carrig within 4. 4 Liam Gosnell points (3 frees) and Sean Walsh’s 2nd closed out the game as Kilworth added 1 more score to ensure a share of the spoils.

Carrig now meet Fr. O’Neills in Carrig on Sunday, 8th March at 2pm in the next round of the league.
