Referee: Arthur Murphy (Killeagh)
Our u21 hurlers were defeated in the semi-final of the East Cork Championship by Aghada in Carrig on Friday night.
Carrig got off to a great start and were 0-6 to 0-1 up inside the first 10 minutes. John Carroll (0-2), Ollie Baverstock, Liam Gosnell, Sean Walsh and James Mulcahy were the scorers. Aghada pulled it back to within a point after 20 minutes before Baverstock goaled for Carrig which was quickly followed by a second Sean Walsh point. Aghada then found the net to keep in touch. Carrig went in at half-time ahead 1-9 to 1-7 with Daire Crotty and Gosnell (free) rounding out Carrig’s total.
Carrig and Aghada traded scores for the first 20 minutes after the restart with Liam Gosnell 0-2 (0-1f), Mulcahy and Walsh getting the points. Aghada then took the lead for the first time in the match when they got their 2nd goal of the match with 10 minutes to go. Another Gosnell free brought Carrig level; 1-14 to 2-11. Aghada notched their 3rd goal to go back in front but Carrig again responded to draw level with 2 more Gosnell frees and a point from Daire McCann. However, it was Aghada who finished the stronger scoring the last 3 points and Carrig couldn’t work a goal opportunity.
