East Cork Junior Hurling Championship Round Robin
Carrigtwohill 1-17 (20) St. Catherines 1-8 (11) in Lisgoold on Sunday, August 18th at 12pm.
Referee: Mark Murphy (Bride Rovers)
Carrig progressed to the East Cork quarter-finals after securing a comfortable win over St. Catherines on a warm Sunday morning in Lisgoold.
Carrig came flying out of the blocks and led from pillar to post as they established a firm lead that was never threatened. Niall Mulligan nabbed Carrig’s goal early in the half after a goalmouth scramble and with Carrig’s middle third well on top the scores started adding up. Chris Keegan pointed; Mulligan added another; Shane O’Hanlon had a fine strike from wing-back and Luke Kelly was unerring from placed balls. Carrig led 1-11 to 0-4 at the break.
Catherines were much improved in the second half and Carrig didn’t have it all their own way. Luke Kelly kept Carrig ticking over, Dara McCann added a couple of scores and David Rooney and Cian Rohan pointed late either side of a Catherines rally that saw them flick a long ball to the net and add a couple of points. Carrig centre-back Kiitan Oke also went off with an arm injury and everyone involved with the club wishes him the best of luck in his recovery.
But Carrig’s lead was never threatened and they top their group after 2 wins from 2. They now progress to the East Cork quarter-final against Killeagh on September 8th.
