WINNING START TO CHAMPIONSHIP FOR JUNIOR A FOOTBALLERS
July 05, 2021
East Cork Junior A Football Championship
Carrigtwohill v Castlemartyr in Ballinacurra
Saturday, 3rd July
Carrigtwohill 1-09 Castlemartyr 0-05
Carrig had a winning start to the football championship and played some good passing football in difficult underfoot conditions on a wet evening.
The eventual winners led from the start and never relinquished that lead. They had opened up a five-point lead (1-04 to 0-02) by the first water break thanks to a Pat O’Sullivan goal where he pirouetted when tackled and toe-tapped the ball to the net. Séamus Roche chipped in with two super kicks from distance, with Liam Gosnell (free) and Jay Horgan also raising a white flag apiece in that first quarter. ‘Rochy’ found the range again in the second quarter with another fine pointed effort and Castlemartyr converted a free to maintain the five-point deficit (1-04 to 0-02) at halftime.
Carrig increased the lead to six points in the third quarter with a point apiece from Justin Oke, Séamus Roche and Brendan Horgan (free) to a brace from Castlemartyr as Carrigtwohill maintained control of the match despite some good pressure from their opponents. Carrigtwohill saw out the match in the final quarter with a second Jay Horan point to make up their total.
Well done to the team and their coaches/mentors on their winning start to the championship.
