Junior C Hurling Championship Round 1
Carrig 2-11 Erins Own 0-17 in Caherlag on Sunday, September 26th
Referee: Peter O’Donovan
Carrigtwohill fielded a 3rd hurling team in this year’s East Cork championship on Sunday morning as our Junior C hurlers travelled to Caherlag to meet Erins Own. In good quality conditions played out in aa downpour in the last 5 minutes, Frank Kierans notched an equalising point on the turn to give both sides a share of the spoils.
This was an evenly-matched game throughout with Carrig 2 points in arrears at the first water break after 2 Matthew Kidney scores, 2 Gosnell frees and a fine score from Billy Scully had Carrig 0-5 to 0-7. Coming up to half time Carrig grabbed a hold of the game with 2 quick-fire goals. First Billy Scully flicked to the net from a Gosnell free before Matthew Kidney ran at the heart of the defence to rifle to the net. 2 points from Alex Kidney and a further Gosnell free had Carrig ahead 2-8 to 0-11 at the interval.
Carrig found the going much tougher in the 2nd half as conditions worsened and Erins Own put together a few points in a row. By the 2nd water break Erins Own had edged in front 2-8 to 0-15. But Carrig managed to eke out a draw at the death when Frank Kierans pointed. Carrig now meet Midleton and Carraig na bhFear in the remaining 2 group games.
