Carrig 2-24 Erins Own 1-11 in Ballinacurra on Saturday, October 9th
Carrig had a statement win on the way to the East Cork Junior B championship semi-final after defeating Erins Own on a warm Saturday evening in Ballinacurra.
Carrig were 0-7 to 0-3 in front at the water break and that was as close as Erins Own got. 3 Luke Kelly frees and fine scores from centre-forward Seamus Roche, full-forward Peadar Downey and midfielder Daire Crotty had Carrig on the board. It was in the second quarter that Carrig had the winning of the game however, adding another 1-10 before the half. Substitute Jack Scully netted the goal with Roche, Crotty and Kelly hurling superbly adding to their overall tally. Shane Healy also added 0-2 to Carrig’s total with Erins Own mustering 1-1 in response, 1-17 to 1-4 at the turnaround.
Carrig maintained their pressure in the second half outscoring Erins Own 1-7 to 0-7 with Kelly and Crotty again to the fore and further scores from wing-forward Adrian Browne and substitute Liam Scriven to run out comfortable winners.
Carrig will now meet St. Catherines in the semi-final next Sunday, October 24th at 2pm. Carrig and Catherines already met in the group stage with Carrig victorious by 1-14 to 0-13 and they will hope for a similar outcome next weekend.
