Carrigtwohill Community Finishes Fourth in Munster in Every Step Counts Challenge

Carrigtwohill GAA Healthy Club registered for the Every Step Counts Challenge for the very first time this year.  The challenge, which is organised conjunction with RTÉ’s Operation Transformation programme, runs for five weeks from the 11th January until the 15th February.  It involves the use of an app to track the distance you cover when walking/running.  210 people registered for Carrigtwohill and collectively covered an incredible 30,426km.

This saw us finish in fourth place out of 212 registered clubs in Munster, despite starting the challenge almost two days late.  Caragh Cremins of Carrigtwohill Cougars Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others fame, contacted the Healthy Club, encouraging us to do the Steps Challenge in tandem with the Ireland Lights Up walks.  And the rest, as they say, is history!

It really was fantastic to see the response from the community and we are most grateful to everybody who took part in the challenge.  Míle buíochas also to everyone who shared our social media posts, spread the word about the challenge and encouraged others to sign up for it.  It was a massive Team Carrig effort.

We would like to give a special mention to those who finished top of the Carrigtwohill leaderboard:

- Barry O'Sullivan led the way, clocking an incredible 794km;

- Lizzy Mangan covered an extremely impressive 603km to place second;

- Darren Ahern finished in third on 559km;

- Eadaoin Hornibrook registered 528km for fourth place;

- John Paul Twomey was fifth on 430km.

Well done to every single person who contributed to the Steps Challenge in any way.  It was the contributions from so many that made it such a resounding success in its inaugural year.
