Carrigtwohill made club history by being the first team since the formation of the juvenile club in 1979 to won a Féile competition. The team came into the finals of the second grade [Premier (Féile 1) being the top grade] of the competition on the back of wins against Ballygarvan, Passage West and Kinsale on Saturday, 8th April.
Playing with the aid of the breeze in the first half, Carrig went in at half-time with a one point (0-03 to 0-02) lead. Cathal Seymour squared the ball to Tom Walsh for the opening score. Ben Fitzgerald converted a free for the second score. Cathal Seymour fielded well from a St. Colum’s kick-out and passed to Sam Ring who directed a good ball in front of Rian Thornhill; Rian blasted the ball over the bar.
Two well taken Ben Fitzgerald frees in the second half got Carrig over the line in a very tight and competitive match. Ben’s first of those two efforts was from all of 35m on the right wing and into the diagonal breeze. Carrigtwohill held a lively St. Colum’s team to just one point from play with some great defending and super passing of the ball and intelligent retention of possession.
