'Tudna' Triumphs with Tralee
August 04, 2023
Comhghairdeas mór to Shane ‘Tudna’ Healy, who last week won an intermediate hurling championship county medal with Tralee Parnells in Austin Stack Park. It was the first such county success for the club.
Tudna has been living in Tralee for well over ten years and has been making the long commute to Carrigtwohill and to various far-flung parts of Cork for training/matches, quite often with his young family in tow. He just recently transferred to Parnells and played at full forward in the comprehensive (0-19 to 1-06) county final win against St. Brendan’s (Ardfert), scoring a point from play.
The easy-going Barryscourt man made the familiar trip to Carrigtwohill for yesterday evening’s junior A training session, after which team manager, Cian Rohan, in the company of the panel, made a presentation to Shane in recognition his longstanding commitment to the club. Cian noted that Shane was on the 2007 premier intermediate and 2011 senior hurling county championship-winning panels. He pointed out that Tudna continued to show great commitment and love for his club, commuting to Carrig for the last decade during what were quite lean years, in terms of silverware. Last year, Shane captained the junior hurlers to an East Cork Division 2 league title against Fr. O’Neill’s in Rostellan.
Junior A hurling team selector, Niall Barrett commended Shane for his longstanding devotion to Carrig and recalled Tudna’s big performance at wing back in the narrow (2-17 to 3-12) senior hurling relegation play-off win against Ballyhea in 2017; a game in which Carrigtwohill were trailing by 2-4 to 0-0 only ten minutes in but after which they made an inspired comeback.
When Shane is not driving the roads between Carrig and Tralee, he likes to steer his drone in the skies during his spare time. Tudna recorded some fantastic aerial footage for our Camán Till Dawn Sunset Relay Marathon during Covid and helped to put together a video of the event. He also took some fantastic drone shots of the new clubhouse when construction was completed. Most recently, Shane sent us on some fantastic aerial photographs of the club grounds during the fantastic spell of sunny weather in early June. We are very grateful to Shane for all the great drone photos and videos.
We wish Shane and his family the very best for the future. We will no doubt see him regularly around Carrig and at matches. The man simply cannot stay away, such is his grá for his village.
Go n-éirí an bóthar leis.
