Junior C Hurling Championship Round 2 Group 1 in Carrigtwohill on Sunday 27th August
Carrigtwohill 4.07 - 4.23 Carraig na bhFear
The junior C hurlers took the field against Carraig na bhFear at Páirc Séamus de Barra in the second round of the championship almost a fortnight after an impressive win against Erin’s Own in the first round. Carraig na bhFear were much too strong for Carrigtwohill on the evening and dominated the game from start to finish.
Carraig na bhFear hit a flurry of scores in the opening twelve minutes to go into an eight point (0-01 to 0-09) lead, with Dáire Crotty opening the Carrig account. Chris Keegan, positioned at the edge of the square, added to an incoming high ball from a Shane O’Hanlon free and scored a lovely ‘old school’ goal. It gave only temporary relief, as Carraig na bhFear scored an unanswered 3-4 in a twelve minute spell to lead 1-01 to 3-13 approaching half-time. Darragh McCann pointed with Liam Scriven the provider. Dáire Crotty latched on to a good ball in from Daragh Hannigan and hit a good strike to the back of the net. Carraig na bhFear finished the first half scoring to make it 2-02 to 3-14 at the break.
Dáire Crotty goaled seconds after the restart. A Chris Keegan free and a Crotty point followed but Carraig na bhFear kept the scoreboard ticking and Carrigtwohill could not close the gap. Chris Keegan doubled on a long delivery from Daragh Hannigan and sent the ball back into the far corner of the goal to make it two goals from overhead strikes. He followed up with a point from a free. Alex Kidney and Daragh Hannigan scored late in the game: Hannigan’s effort was a fine strike from the middle of the field.
