New Club President - Peter Hogan
New Club President - Peter Hogan
June 26, 2024
At the monthly executive committee meeting last Thursday night, 20th June, Peter Hogan was ratified as the incoming president of the club. The position had been vacant since the passing of longstanding president, Eddie O’Riordan last December. Peter will fill the role as president for a five year term.
The name Peter Hogan is synonymous with Carrigtwohill GAA. Peter eats, breathes and sleeps GAA, and Carrig GAA in particular. He has lived in the village all of his life and has been hugely involved in all areas and aspects of the club since he started out at U14 level, playing his first match behind Glounthaune church.
Peter went on the play minor hurling for Cork. He lined out at adult level for Carrig in both codes for many years and was centre back on the team that played in the 1978 Junior A hurling county final against Mayfield.
Since retiring, Peter has done just about everything that any GAA volunteer has turned their hand to. He refereed at adult level in both codes and has held pretty much every position in the club as an administrator, including two terms as chairperson. Peter has served as County Board Delegate and Chairman of the Cork County Minor Board (now Rebel Óg).
Peter has been involved with too many teams to mention as manager, selector and coach across all ages, grades and codes from juvenile to adult level. His mantra is the importance of the playing of our games and he currently is manager of the junior B hurling and junior C football teams, which he was instrumental in developing. Peter's energy and passion for Gaelic Games and for Carrig are insatiable.
When not immersed in club activities, Peter travels the length and breadth of the country to watch matches and visits northern Ireland quite a bit to take in games in Ulster. He is well-known all over the country in GAA circles.
On accepting the presidency, Peter acknowledged all those presidents of the club who had gone before him and recounted how he had travelled all over the place to matches when younger with many of those same great clubmen. He said that he was honoured to be ratified as president of the club.
“I think it as a fantastic club. I think there are fantastic people in the club. I think there are fantastic people coming into the club and ready to come into the club. There is going to be an invasion of new people over the next decade into the club and we have to make them more welcome. I’m sure they will carry on the torch.”
Peter finished by saying, “I will be an outgoing president. We have a proud club. We have a great club. We will all go forward together. Hopefully, I can steer the ship as president and be a good president.”
Being uachtarán will not stop Peter Hogan from running up and down sidelines, lining the field, putting out flags, umpiring etc. That is what makes him the clubman that he is and such a deserving and worthy president of the club.
We wish Peter the very best for his term as president and have no doubt that he will be a fantastic ambassador for Carrigtwohill GAA Club.
