New History & Archives Facility Up and Running
New History & Archives Facility Up and Running
November 24, 2024
The club's history and archives committee is in the process of moving archival material into its newly refurbished facility, in what was the old meeting room and kitchen. An electronic database is also being set up.
The refurbishment involved drylining/insulating, re-wiring, climate controlled electric heating (to preserve the archival material), along with a full fit-out to include new flooring, doors/architraves, painting, shelving, furniture, computers, printer/scanner and kitchenette.
The main purpose of the archives room is to provide for the safeguarding of the history of past and future generations within the club.
The key benefits are:
• The secure and permanent retention and preservation of documents, photos, video and audio recordings, memorabilia and artefacts etc that tell the story and history of the club;
• The continuous maintenance and updating of our collection;
• To facilitate the presentation of talks and films on club history and related topics to smaller groups;
• To encourage the donation to the club of old pictures, memorabilia, artefacts and other items of interest.
On the final point above, if anyone has any items that they would like to donate to the club, then please contact the history and archives committee at 087 754 5755.
